If You Put Yourself In A Dangerous Place,
You May Be Hurt Or Killed
Dear Editor:
Poor Rachel Corrie died when she tried to block Israeli troops who were demolishing a Palestinian home in the Gaza Strip. Miss Corrie was American College student and a member of the Palestinian-backed International Solidarity Movement. She was encouraged to travel to the Gaza Strip and stand as a human shield to protect a Palestinian house.
If one does a foolish thing he or she should not be surprised to experience disastrous consequences. Miss Corrie was like the person playing Russian roulette, or the people running before the angry bulls in Spain. She gambled and lost.
One should not fault the Israeli soldier who drove the bull dozier that crushed her. He was in a war situation. His life was at risk. She did a stupid thing and paid an awful price for it. If anyone is to blame it is the leaders of the International Solidarity Movement who encourage idealistic, immature young folks to take these huge risks to aid in their political propaganda.
My old dad used to say, “Son, never put your finger between the hammer and the nail.” Evidently no one ever taught that vital lesson to Miss Corrie. May others profit from her mistake.
