Selective Outrage

Dear Editor:

The National Education Association (NEA), Red Cross and Johnson and Johnson are offering to help teachers with their lesson approach for Sept. 11.

To note the anniversary of the terrorist attacks on our country they recommend that teachers not cast blame against any group or country; that they avoid taking sides in discussions of the political or religious issues students raise. Above all they must "model respect for and tolerance for al the views and feelings that (their) students share..."

This is yet another patent attempt to use public schools and their captive audiences to advance the liberal agenda for national life and issues. The facts are it was not fair-skinned, blue eyed Norwegians that attacked us; nor was it German Lutherans, or Indian Hindus. It was Arab Muslim extremist. Nor are they through with their deadly war against America, Christians and Jews. Evidence recovered from Afghanistan demonstrates that they have more lethal surprises in store for us.

The liberal is very selective in his moral judgments. It is all right for Jews to still be outraged about the Holocaust imposed on them by Germany 60 years ago. It is all right for Blacks to still be angry and outraged that their ancestors were enslaved in the South more than 135 years ago. It is all right if Gays are outraged against those who view their conduct as deviant. It is acceptable for environmentalists to be outraged at loggers, but it is not OK for Americans to be outraged that Arab Muslims, without provocation, surreptitiously attacked us and killed some 3,000 of our citizens.

As citizens whose nation was victimized, we should be so outraged:
  • Educators should cancel their membership in the NEA.
  • Contributions should be withheld from the Red Cross.
  • Shoppers should boycott Johnson and Johnson products.
These organizations obviously don't care much for America, why should we patronize them?
