The Big Lie

Those whose religion is secularism are determined to change our nation from one whose principles and laws are based on the moral teachings of Christianity to one completely secular. As propagandists are wont to do, they are continually saying that the founders of our nation were secular men, deists at best, and that they intended the nation they created to operated totally on secular principles.  This is the official line of the secular Left, which includes the Democrat Party, public education, our most of our media and the bulk of the entertainment world.

In his book, Our Sacred Honor, historian, William Bennett demonstrates the falsity of this claim.  While they were determined that there would be no state church as in Europe and England, their speeches and writings breathed the words and principles of the Bible.

  • George Washington observed, "Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports.  In vain would that man claim the tribute of patriotism, who should labor to subvert these great pillars of human happiness, these firmest props of the duties of men and citizens." (Farewell address).  "The smiles of Heaven can never be expected on a nation that disregards the eternal rules of order and right , which Heaven itself has ordained."
  • As John Adams saw it, "Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people.  It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other." On taking office he said, "I feel it to be my duty to add, if a veneration for the religion of a people who profess and call themselves Christians, and a fixed resolution to consider a decent respect for Christianity among the best recommendations for the public service..."
  • Thomas Jefferson asked, "...can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are the gift of God?"
  • Benjamin Franklin, though at one point a deist, later wrote, "That there is one God Father of the Universe...That he ought to be worshiped by Adoration Prayer and Thanksgiving both in public and private...."  At the Constitutional Convention, Franklin said, "...the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth–that God governs in the affairs of meen. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without his notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without his aid.  We have been assured, Sir, in the sacred writings, that 'except the Lord build the House they labor in vain that build it.' I firmly believe thesis; and I also believe that without his concurring aid we shall succeed in the political building no better than the Builders of Babel...I therefore beg leave to move ... that henceforth prayers imploring the assistance of Heaven, and its blessing on our deliberations, be held in this Assembly every morning ... and that one or more of the Clergy of this City be requested to officiate in that service."
  • Near the end of his life Thomas Jefferson advised a young friend, "Adore God. Reverence and cherish your parents. Love your neighbor as yourself, and your country more than yourself. Be just. Be true. Murmur not at the ways of Providence..."

We must never forget that a lie oft repeated becomes the truth to those deceived.  God and Christianity were major factors in the founding of this nation.  They should still be so today.  He is no friend of our nation who seeks to destroy this foundational truth.
