Belief in God OK - Just Don't Live It
Dear Editor:
In 90 A.D. the Senate and their political backers gathered at the Coliseum and screamed, "Christians to the Lions." That was in Rome. In 2001, Democrat Senators and Representatives gathered in Washington are screaming for the blood of John Ashcroft, the Christian. Cheered on by pro abortionists, gays, lesbians and a host of other secular minded spirits, they are prepared to do whatever is necessary to keep the Senator from becoming this nation's Attorney General.
At first their true motivation was hidden behind ideological objections to his conservative political views. Embolden by the eager support of their media friends, they have now cast aside all pretense and are attacking Ashcroft because of his evangelical Christian convictions.
These secular politicos are outraged that Ashcroft once spoke of "a culture that has no king but Caesar, no standard but the civil authority, and a culture that has no king but Jesus, no standard but the eternal authority." If Mr. Ashcroft had been one of theirs; an adulterer, a hedonist, a perjurer, who had shamelessly defiled the most sacred office of the nations, they would have hailed him as, "the greatest attorney general in the history of America."
They had no objection when fellow Senator Joe Lieberman quoted scripture, called upon his God and preached the need for moral discipline and goodness. But then, Mr. Lieberman was Jewish and their vice-presidential candidate.
The fact is liberals really don't mind a person being passionate about his religion and pushing his moral/social agenda, just as long as he is not an active evangelical Christian.
The pagan priests and politicians of Rome convinced the populace that Christians were a threat to their society and the manipulated mob joined the outcry for their blood. The same scenario is being played out Washington today.
