The Ten Commandments and Today's Society

Over three thousand years ago on the quaking, smoke-covered top of Mt Sinai, God said to Moses:
  • Thou shalt have no other gods before Me.
  • Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image.
  • Thou shalt not take the Name of the Lord thy God in vain.
  • Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
  • Honor thy father and thy mother.
  • Thou shalt not kill.
  • Thou shalt not commit adultery.
  • Thou shalt not steal.
  • Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.
  • Thou shalt not covet (Exodus 20:3-17).
Is it not interesting that precepts so beneficial, so proven by time, so essential to the peace and stability of society are so hated by some of our fellow citizens? Those of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) have dedicated themselves to banning the public display of these commandments from all public schools, courtrooms and governments properties. Their sympathizers in the courts and in public office have rushed to comply with their demands.

And what would these anti-Christian zealots give us in exchanged for this code of conduct which has blest humanity for the last 3500 years?
  • They promote the doctrine of pluralism that says that the idols of Buddhism, Hinduism, animism etc. are to be respected and regarded equal to Jehovah.
  • They champion the right of sinners to blaspheme God's name on our public airwaves and in our entertainment venues.
  • They have undermined respect for parents and the home bringing us to the brink of social collapse.
  • They shield and protect those who kill so that many go unpunished and most escape the capital punishment God ordained for murderers (Genesis 9:6).
  • They have made adultery respectable and admirable.
  • They excuse those who steal.
  • Lying has been made acceptable if the circumstance demands its.
  • Covetousness is encouraged by the advertising industry and by politicians who encourage those who are of lower economic class to envy those who have prospered more and covet their possessions and wealth.
"Woe to them what call evil good, and good evil" (Isaiah 5:20).
