Do You Love Jesus?
As children we sang, "Jesus Loves Me." As adults we sing, "O
How I Love Jesus." Preachers talk about loving Jesus. Books
are written on the subject. But the thing that really counts is, "Do
you love Jesus?" I am sure that most who read these lines
would answer, Yes! There is a problem. We Americans use the
word "love" so casually. We love everything from pets to pie, from
football to fishing, from mom to movie stars. Christ has much more in
mind when he calls upon us to love him. He asked Peter,
"Lovest thou me more than these?" meaning his boat and nets by which he
made a living (John 21:15). He taught us to love the Lord our God with
all our heart, soul and mind (Matt. 22:37). Loving Jesus is defined by
the Master himself. "If ye love me, ye will keep my commandments" (John
14:15). This provides a pattern by which to measure
our claim. Do you love Jesus? Do you do your best to you keep his
commandments? If not, then your claim is meaningless.
You might ask, "Well, how can I know the will of Jesus?" The
answer is simple, you can read it in your New Testament. It is the last
will and testament of Jesus of Nazareth, the Son of God (Heb.
9:15-20). God has given you a good mind. Most likely you have
two good eyes. You have 24 hours in every day. You
can probably read. You likely have a Bible in your home. If
not you can get one for a small price. You cannot keep his commandments
if you do not know what they are! Read the message of Christ
to understand it, with the determination to obey it in every
particular. Your faith and your obedience to his will, will bring you
the greatest gift of all, the forgiveness of your sins (Mark
16:16). The Father and Son will love you and make their abode
with you (John 14:23). If you are not obeying him, do bother to talk or
sing of loving Jesus for the words would be without meaning.
Sincerely,
