Relationships That Matter

Relationships are essential in life. God said it is not God for man to be alone (Gen. 2:18). While possible relations are without number, there are some that are more important than others. Consider the following:
  • Every person needs a relationship with Jesus of Nazareth. No one can go to the Father in heaven except by Christ (John 14:6). He invites all who are struggling with the burdens of life to come and share a relationship with him (Matt. 11:28). All spiritual blessings are enjoyed by those who have made Jesus their friend and savior (Eph. 1:3).
  • All people need a relationship with Jehovah God, the creator and sustainer of life. "Man cannot live by bread alone but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God" (Matt. 4:4). Jesus said, "If a man love me, he will keep my word: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him" (John 14:23).
  • Each of us needs a relationship with God's Holy Spirit. He comes to live with all who in faith repent and are baptized in the name of Jesus (Acts 2:38). He comforts them (John 14:26). He leads and guides them (Rom. 8:14). He strengthens (Eph. 3:16). He gives us assurance of our salvation (Eph. 1:13-14).
  • Everyone needs a relationship with other Christians who share a common faith, a common purpose and a common hope of heaven. Such relationships are found in Christ's church. The church is like a body, with each member dependent upon the other (I Cor. 12:12-21).
If we get these relationships right, chances are good that others that are needed will fall into place. Other human relationships can never take their place.
