God's Gift to Adam... And Us
When God saw Adam, alone in the garden, he had compassion for him and
made him a wife perfectly suited to be his help-mate and soul-mate in
life (Gen. 2:18-23). As we ponder all the things that God has done for
us, let us never forget to be grateful for our mates. Solomon observed,
"a prudent wife is from Jehovah" (Proverbs 19:14). So also is a good
husband. We should always be grateful that our Father created and
ordained the wonderful institution of marriage. We should honor and
respect it as one of the holy and sacred things of life.
Marriage meets essential needs in our lives. It provides each of us a
helper suited to our needs. It provides the mutual love and affection
to satisfy our biological and emotional needs. In marriage, partners
strengthen and encourage each other. A good marriage is foretaste of
heaven.
Christians, to be faithful, must subscribe to the rules of Christ
regarding marriage. "Let marriage be had in honor among all..."
(Hebrews 13:4). "Husbands love your wives, even as Christ also love the
church..." (Ephesians 5:25) "Women...love (your) husbands (Tit. 2:4).
Honor and respect your mate (Proverbs 31:28; I Peter 3:7). Live with
them according to God's instruction (I Peter 3:7a). Be kind to them
(Ephesians 4:32). Help them, for both are to be helpmates to each
other. Be loyal to your vows to love and to cherish till death do you
part. Our happiness in eternity depends in large measure on the kind of
marriage partner we are in this life.
