Well What Do You Know!
Did you see the news item about the influence of "going to church" on
the self-esteem of middle school kids? Psychologist Rebecca Nolan of
Louisiana State University reports that her survey of 1,261 kids from
across the nation found that "the greater the involvement of
eighth-graders religiously, the higher their self-esteem." The report
notes that "Churches emphasize positive self-images, and this may
influence youngsters." Psychologist Robert Archer of Eastern Virginia
Medical School observed that "Hanging out some of the time in church
‘may help to soften this self-critical stuff that comes from
constant peer comparison...it's a nice alternative to MTV.'"
My first thought is, "What took them so long to figure this correlation
out?" My second thought is, "Why don't more parents understand this
fact and take advantage of every opportunity to have their children in
Bible school, worship and Christian youth activities?"
Only those who train up their children in the way they should go can
hope to see them follow the Lord's way (Proverbs 22:6). To fail in this
responsibility is to prepare them for a life of sin and sorrow. How
tragic.
Where will you kiddies be at 9:00 am next Lord's Day?
