What Are You Looking For?
We all have tastes and preferences in every area of life; our clothing,
food, home decor, car, music and our religion. When we became
Christians our tastes and preferences were surrendered to Christ along
with the rest of our lives. We were crucified with him and now he
reigns as Lord in our hearts (Gal.2:20). Especially in the realm
of religion the Christian's preference must be that which Christ has
set before us as His way (John 14:6). With Paul we must strive to
please God as we live our Christian life (I Thess. 4:1).
Many postmodern folks have a hard time understanding and accepting this
truth. They want forgiveness and they want to go to heaven, but
living and worshiping by the ancient code of Jesus is galling to
their independence. When He created us, God endowed each of us
with volition, the ability to chose between things and make our own
decisions. Each day He sets before us good and evil that we may
chose one or the other (Deut.30:19).
- If your heart is set on clapping your hands, shouting, dancing you are free to go to a Pentecostal church.
- If you yearn for tradition, ritual, liturgy, and clerical splendor you can choose Catholicism or the Episcopal Church.
- If you want entertainment you can go to a Community Church with contemporary worship.
- If you want faith healing and miracles you can go to a charismatic church.
- If you want a church where you can believe anything you wish
and live as you desire you can go to a Unitarian-Universalist Church.
- If you want a church that concentrates on social action and self improvement you can choose a Methodist Church.
- If you want a church that lives as in the olden times you can go to the Old Amish Church.
- If you want a church that accepts, approves of and endorse homosexual conduct there is the Metropolitan Community Church.
If you want a church where God's Word is studied; Where Christ is
preached (Phil. 1:18); Where people worship the Father in spirit and in
truth (John 4:24); Where folks make every effort to follow the Bible in
all things (Heb. 8:5); Where sin is condemned but sinners are loved;
Where Christians labor to do the will of the Father and thus build up
his kingdom, then you need to seek out a church of Christ and worship
with them (Rom. 16:16). The choice is yours, but with your choice
goes the consequence. Those who choose to do the will of the
Father will enter the kingdom of heaven, those who choose to do
otherwise will be rejected (Matt. 7:21).
Sincerely,
