Liberal Journalists Smell Catholic Blood

Liberal journalists, such as Maureen Dowd of the N. Y. Times, are really having a field day pummeling the Roman Catholic Church. Somehow they have forgotten the basic principles of multiculturalism and traditional liberal tolerance of sinners and are venting their spleen and hatred toward that church.

The convenient justification is of course the wicked and despicable behavior of a relative few priests who have sexually abused children, the failure of the bishops to deal decisively with them and the current attempts of the hierarchy to manage and control the damage done.

It was all right for Bill Clinton and the Democrats to engage in damage control, but not for the Catholic leaders.

While all agree the sins of the offending priests and the bishops are grievous, I find it hard to believe that liberals are that concerned about the spiritual welfare of that church.

Before the scandal erupted liberals were furious that Catholic authorities refused to yield to their demands on abortion, euthanasia, artificial birth control, women priests, and approval for the gay lifestyle. Prior to the current scandal, there was enough residual respect, influence and power in the Catholic church to temper and restrain the public pronouncements of the liberals.

Now the shield is broken and first blood has been spilled. The furies are unleashed and Ms. Dowd exemplifies the bloodthirsty warriors who are moving in for the kill.
