Fossiles and Faith
Dear Editor:
Anthropologists Brian Richmond and David Strait have examined two fossils of ancient hominids and concluded that we human evolved from knuckle-walkers, like chimps. Their conclusion is said to challenge decades of anthropological theory about man's evolutionary descent.
This bit of "scientific evidence" is truly impressive. Two samples were examined! Furthermore, these brilliant scientists state, "We didn't actually find fossils from this critical time period...we found...echoes of the earlier ancestors in the earliest human fossils that we currently have." My, my! So this is science! It would have been nice had they told us how much actual fossil material of their later human fossils they examined. For example, Java Man consisted in a skull cap and a leg bone. Piltdown Man consisted of a tooth. Both were later shown to be frauds. Peking Man consisted of small pieces of skull bone and no limb bones. Ramapithecus, from East Africa consists of jaws and teeth, et. etc. (The Rise of the Evolution Fraud, by M. Bowden, 1982). From these tiny, disputed fragments, dedicated evolutionists and their reconstruction artists paint or mold impressive images of transitional ape men and display them in museums and text books as the real thing. Impressionable young folks and non-thinking adults are expected to conclude, "Ergo, I descended from an ape!"
Given the scanty evidence, the predisposition of the researchers and the highly speculative nature of their conclusions, I choose to cling to the old view. It says, I descended from upright, human ancestors named Adam and Eve who were created by an intelligent Supreme Being. Old fashioned? Yes. Unreasonable? Not nearly as unreasonable as the conclusions of these two notable anthropologists.
