Questions About God

Dear Brother John:
How do we know God isn't black? How do we know God isn't a woman? If humans are not supposed to judge then how come in the Bible it says that gay men are to be stoned? It seems to me that he is pretty quick to judge others.

Dear Candice:
All human beings have a racial or ethnic identity. Thus we can distinguish between those who are African, Hispanic, Caucasian, Chinese, Indian. God is not human.God is a Spirit (John 4:24). Jesus said we know that a spirit hath not flesh and bones (Lk. 24:39). Our God is the father of all humanity, regardless of their race (Acts 17:28-29). All people tend to think of God as in some way like themselves. Thus African people think of Him as like themselves.Caucasians and Asians do the same.

When God speaks of himself he always used masculine terms.Psalm 149:1 says, "Sing unto Jehovah a new song, and his praise in the assembly of the saints." Christ called God "Father" not mother, (Matt. 6:9)

When God says, "Judge not that ye be not judged" (Matt. 7:1), he is forbidding us from being hateful, critical, judgmental and unforgiving of others. He warns that "with what measure we mete (or judge others), we ourselves will be judged (Matt.7:2). However when God himself tells us that a certain thing is wrong and forbidden, we are not judging in this forbidden sense when we say that such conduct is sinful and wrong. We are not being judmental when we say to the thief, "That is wrong!" God has declared, Thou shalt not steal. God has said that homosexual conduct is sinful (Lev. 18:22; Rom. 1:26-27). Thus we are not forbidden to say that such conduct is contrary to God's will.

God who created humanity is the moral governor of the universe. He has the right to set the standards for human conduct.Just as he has said "Thou shalt not kill (murder)" and steal so he tells us what is the proper conduct in other areas of personal morality. Our duty is to live by his standards and teach others to do so.
