What Is Heaven Like?
Dear Minister:
I believe in the mighty Jesus and want to go to heaven. Can you tell me what heaven is like?
- Anna Maria
Dear Anna Maria:
Heaven is a real place. It is the eternal reward for those who live for God in this life (John 14:1-3). Earth's most wonderful and beautiful things are used by God to describe heaven.
- It is like a great walled city, providing protection from harm.
- It has many open gates so any who will may enter in.
- It is described as made of the purest gold and precious jewels. No more beautiful place could be imagined.
- Its great size will accommodate all the saved of all the ages and nations (Revelation 21:15-17).
- It is a paradisiacal garden with the river and tree of life. All that was lost in Eden will be regained in heaven (Revelation 22:1-5).
- In heaven we will live in God's house, with him as a loving father watching over us (Revelation1:3).
- It is a place of reunion with loved ones and friends (Matthew 8:11).
- There we will not be tempted or led away from God. Satan will be destroyed (Revelation 20:10) and there will be no more sin (Revelation 21:27).
- Heaven is a place of moral and spiritual purity as it was with man in the beginning (Revelation 21:27).
- It is a place of renewal for the sick, aged and afflicted, a place of eternal life with no fear of death (I Corinthians 15:50-54).
Jesus invites all to come unto him and he will give them rest in his heavenly home (Matthew 11:28-31). No matter what a person has done, he can be saved. The question is, does that person really want to go to heaven? He must be willing to trust Jesus as his savior (John 3:36), repent of his sins (Acts 17:30), confess his faith in him (Matthew 10:32) and be immersed in water to wash away his sins (Acts 22:16). Upon that compliance God will add him to his church (Acts 2:47). He must live faithfully for Christ and heaven will be his home (Revelation 2:10). Remember, Heaven is a prepared place for a prepared people.
